Today we are going to look at Ori and the Will of the Wisps. What does this game do differently than Ori and the Blind Forest? The biggest change is the combat. This means that you will need to learn how to fight once again. Instead of fighting with Sein, you will need to use skills that you find. These skills can be acquired in many ways. Ori and the Will of the Wisps is a Metroidvania at heart with many platforming elements.
You will find spirit light that you need to buy skills with at the shop. This means that you will be killing enemies for spirit light. You must also search for secret areas to gain more spirit light. These secret areas will also contain new skills and upgrades. There are many places that you will not be able to reach in the beginning. The story was very good in Ori and the Blind Forest but Ori and the Will of the Wisps manages to top that. The story continues where Ori and the Blind Forest has ended. This means that there is a cast of new characters.
What did I think of Ori and the Will of the Wisps before playing?
I did not know too much about Ori and the Will of Wisps before playing. I only started looking up information about this game after I had finished playing Ori and the Blind Forest. After finishing Ori and the Blind Forest you will feel enticed to start playing Ori and the Will of the Wisps. I was very excited and had high hopes for Ori and the Will of the wisps. Without further ado, I looked up the Steam Page of Ori and the Will of the Wisps for more information.
Is Ori the Will of the Wisps different than Ori and the Blind Forest?
It becomes clear that Ori and the Will of the Wisps take part in a new land. this means that you will get to explore other places than you have been in Ori and the Blind Forest.
The combat system has been overhauled along with the skill system.
This also means that you will find quests along the way. this also involves a long but rewarding trading quest. Some attacks will make a comeback like the ground pound but there will be new skills like being able to use a sword. Another new feature is bosses, these bosses also have health bars but most of the time killing these bosses will make you sad instead of feeling victorious.
I rate Ori and the Will of the Wisps with an 8.5 before playing.
After finishing the story of Ori and the Blind Forest my interest in Ori and the will of the wisps were very high. I was very excited to see how the story would continue.
The story of Ori and the Will of the Wisps takes place after Ori and the Blind Forest. The new family is having a great time together but Ku the owl cannot fly. Ori uses the feather from his previous adventure to patch up Ku’s wing. Finally able to fly, Ku and Ori take to the skies following other birds to a new land. Suddenly out of nowhere, a storm appears. The thunder from this storm almost hits Ku and Ori and they crash to the ground. Now Ori is separated from Ku he will need to find his way through this new land and save Ku.
I rate the story of Ori and the Will of the Wisps with a 10.
This story is even better than the previous story from Ori and the Blind Forest. This story of this game makes me feel sad for killing the final boss.
Important gameplay elements
The gameplay is way different than Ori and the Blind Forest. This means that you will need to get re-adjusted to the controls once again. Ori and the Will of the Wisps will make you use close attacks that Ori generates instead of using attacks from Sein. You are able to equip three attacks at once but some are passive like launching yourself in the sky. Skills can usually be found in trees filled with light. These usually are found in places where you will need to use the skill to continue.
The biggest change is that you can now complete quests. You can also find quests in the Everglades. The Everglades is the most important location in Ori and the Will of the Wisps. The Everglade will act as the main hub but don’t expect the Everglades to be in perfect condition. This means that you must find gorlek ore scattered in the world of Ori and the Will of the Wisps. You will need the gorlek ore for the smith, the smith can build new houses or make the Everglade more beautiful. There is also an inhabitant in the Everglades that wants to plant seeds. You will need to find seeds scattered in all of the different biomes. After gathering these seeds you can plant them in the Everglades.
The Everglades is also home to a shop where you can buy new attacks or skills. Skills and attacks can also be upgraded but remember for shopping and upgrading you will need spirit light. There is also a character that always seems to lurk around you without you seeing him as he knows all the statistics of your game. If you explore enough you might find upgrades for your energy and health points.
Other important gameplay elements
You will face a wide array of enemies and bosses as you will try to save Ku. You can see how many of the world events you have progressed by checking your inventory. There are many new mechanics that you will have to learn in Ori and the Will of the Wisps.
You have a lot of freedom when exploring the land of Ori and the Will of the Wisps but in the end, you are going to backtrack a lot. The new skills like digging through sand are a great addition.
I rate the gameplay of Ori and the Will of the Wisps with a 9.2
The gameplay is a huge upgrade from Ori and the Blind Forest. There is a lot more to do like building up the Everglades. The skill system works much better, I am finally able to smash enemies with a sword. You can also upgrade the skills this time around. I like all the improvements that have been made in Ori and the Will of the Wisps.
Sound and Graphics
The graphics in Ori and the Will of the Wisp are better than in Ori and the Blind Forest. You can see that the art looks better. This is most likely due to the developers having more practice after finishing Ori and the Blind Forest. The cutscenes are great, I don’t know if I love the developers for the final part of the story or hate them. I feel very sad about the final boss. This game takes your feelings and throws them in a blender.
The music in Ori and the Will of the Wisps is amazing. You can hear that the developers have chosen the best soundtrack possible for every occasion. The sound effects are wonderful. Blending the graphics and sound makes for an amazing experience.
I rate Ori and the Will of the Wisps with a 9.5.
I do not think that this game deserves a 10 in the sound and graphics department but it does come close. You can see a great deal of improvement in Ori and the Will of the Wisps.
What did I think of Ori and the Will of the Wisps after playing?
I had a great time with Ori and the Will of the Wisps. This means that I enjoyed Ori and the Will of the Wisps more than Ori and the Blind Forest.
This game did definitely live up to my expectations but once again my emotions have been toyed with. I enjoyed rebuilding the Everglades a lot more than I had expected.
The skill system along with upgrading worked well for me. This also means that when you reach the end of the game you might have not upgraded all skills yet. Ori and the Will of the Wisps make it easier to complete the game for 100% but to achieve this easier way you will need to complete the long trading quests. It shows that this game is a very good Metroidvania game at heart but also uses some other elements like platforming. The skills all feel useful and meaningful.
I rate Ori and the Will of the Wisps with a 9.0 after playing.
the enjoyment of the Ori series was wonderful. I think that a great deal of the mechanics and story of Ori and the Will of the Wisps are better than Ori and the Blind Forest. I wonder if there will ever be a third game in the Ori series.
I was very glad that I played the Ori series, the story makes me feel very sad. I recorded the final boss fight, how to easily defeat the final boss but the ending still made me feel bad for killing the final boss. It is amazing what the developers managed to achieve. Have you not read Ori and the Blind forest yet?
