Today we are going to look at a game that has been recently released called Simpocalypse. This is a strategic survival game where you need to face the consequences of nuclear fallout. You will need to rebuild the civilization and start thriving once more. Instead of now having peace with the last survivors, you can kill them all and conquer the world. Don’t bother with the reason how a nuclear fallout could happen in the first place, just throw more bombs right? Well, in this game it is indeed your goal to make sure that you conquer the world! Can you thrive in this barren land and rebuild the civilization as you used to know?
What did I think before playing Simpocalypse?
The developers of Simpocalypse contacted me to ask if I wanted to review their game. I was interested but I did not know exactly what to expect from this game. They told me that it was akin to Age of Empires except it would be more text and hud-based. This got me pretty excited and my wife as well. These are games that I used to play when I was little! I also learned that you need to scavenge resources and try to let your civilization survive. There is also a skill tree that you can invest in to learn about new buildings! We quickly went to the Steam page for more information!
The Steam Page
I am always interested in trying out new games, this game got up on the priority list of games very quickly. The steam page held a lot of information about the game. Like in most games that have resource gathering, you can also speed up the time. Another amazing thing is the market where you can buy and sell resources. You can even instruct your citizens to make computers or cars. Idle citizens become unhappy very quickly it is better for them to work!
I rate Simpocalypse with a 9.0 before playing.
If this is the game style that you liked in your childhood, or if you like Age of Empires, then this game will be a perfect match for you!
In Simpocalypse you play as a small group of people that come out of a bomb shelter after a nuclear war has gone bad. Your goal is to survive by scavenging goods and learning how to start up your civilization again. Once that is done, the best thing to do after the war is to have another war! Conquer the world!
I rate the story of Simpocalypse with a 10.
Why a 10 you ask? This story is the ultimate pinnacle of irony. I just cannot stretch this enough, make war after a nuclear fallout? I hope real humans are smarter! (Who am I kidding?)
Your main goal in Simpocalypse is to survive and make sure everything is maintained and does not fall apart. There is no field with buildings, just a HUD with buildings that you own and more. The buildings are divided into different categories, for each resource there is one row, you will have one row where buildings are stored. Some buildings will generate multiple resources like a mining plant.
It is important to keep attracting people to your base, they need to work of course! To attract more people you will need to build houses. If you have too many idle citizens, happiness will go down and productivity starts to drop. Later in the game, you will also be able to build hospitals, schools, and more public job buildings. You will need people to work here. It is important that there are enough doctors and other important jobs.
There will be random events, like winter which will decrease the crops that your farm gives. Summer will give more crops. There will also be earthquakes or riots, you will need builders or police men to make sure events don’t have catastrophic results. To learn all these buildings you will need to invest in the skill tree. To gain skill points, you simply need to let the time pass, your research points will culminate over time.
If you, however, build schools and research centers, your research points will culminate faster. When you have enough citizens you can make a war factory and regular factories. The war factory is needed to make tanks and combine tank parts. Tank parts can be found by scavenging new territory. The regular factory will allow you to trade resources for gold or buy resources that you need. There is a lot more to Simpocalypse but I will let you find out the rest for yourself!
I rate the gameplay of Simpocalypse with a 10.
This game is highly addictive, I will just finish this and that, now I can go to sleep. Oh, it is already four hours later.
The replay value is also very high as there is a new game+ mode with bonuses but you start from scratch!
Sound and Graphics
The graphics are quite good for Simpoclaypse although it something quite different than you would expect. This style is reminiscent of gameplay from a time long gone. When simulators worked differently than using flashy graphics. The HUD is very easy to use and learn, not complicated at all.
There is sadly not much music but it was a nice soundtrack. I know there will be new soundtracks in the future which I am waiting for!
I rate the sound and Graphics of Simpocalypse with a 7
I hope the new soundtracks will be added soon! The graphics are amazing!
What did I think after playing Simpocalypse?
My wife and I put in over 100 hours in Simpocalypse in a short time. We even did a full run and recorded the video. This will give you a good idea of how the game works! Making sure that people are not idle can be a challenge if you have over 100 million people! This game makes the most use of your imagination instead of using flashy graphics! This game is a lot of fun and I would recommend it to everyone! It exceeded all my expectations.
I rate Simpocalypse with a 10 after playing.
This game is a lot of fun if you like resource-gathering games!
What are my personal thoughts about Simpocalypse?
