AtmaSphere review

Just keep on rolling!

AtmaSphere review

Introduction

Today we are going to look at a game that is called AtmaSphere. The goal in this game is to roll, and we’ll keep rolling forever since if you do not roll far enough or collecting of items you will never meet Mrs. ball. No, I’m not making a joke here, I’m seriously saying at the end of each level there is a pink ball that wants to meet you and then all kinds of Hearts appear. Other than that, you will be mostly rolling in this game, a lot of rolling. Yeah, I cannot say how much rolling you will be doing. There will be no story in this game as all this game is about, is rolling, let’s see how far you can roll.

What did I think before playing AtmaSphere?

I wanted to play this game since I saw it come by and some kind of bundle, and it reminded me of this old game. In this older game, you were a hamster in a ball, and you needed to roll through the levels and collect some food. I was very young back then, but this game reminded me of that when I saw a ball rolling through levels. However, it did look intriguing and the name atmosphere it sounded alluring to me, so I decided to check out the steam page since I wanted to gather more information on AtmaSphere.

The Steam page

After checking out the steam page I see that are quite some levels and the ball is actually called Ballard, a strange never mind dad you will be going through handcrafted levels with traps and other items. We will go deeper into this with the gameplay section, but all in all, it seems to be a relaxing game where you roll a ball through a level to meet a ballerina. She has a bow on our ball. Can you roll your way to the ballerina?

Rating

I rated AtmaSphere with a 6.2 before playing.
Time for a relaxing roll!

Gameplay

The game plays simple, of course, you need to roll. That is the main part that you will be doing, since if you do not roll, you will be stuck at the beginning of a level. Once you start rolling, you will also see yellow dots. These reminded me of the Pac-Man dots and I wanted to make that waka sound because why not? It is a Mrs. and a mister ball. As you roll through the level, you will meet boxes. These boxes will try to deter your way and hopefully let you fall into the abyss that is a relaxing atmospheric background with a pleasant sound of rain.

Later in the game there are some boxes that you can break next to the yellow dots, you will also need to collect five crystals in each level. Most of these are hidden in plain sight, some even very obviously hidden, but if you get them you will earn achievements and everybody loves achievements. For almost each level that you complete you will also get an achievement, just make your way to the end of the level slowly but carefully.

Once you have progressed through some levels, you will need to avoid traps. Some of these might be bigger boxes, others might be swinging blades or saws that move to the ground spinning blades and a lot more. While you have to deal with gravity as you need to fall down or even roll down a slope. Well, the levels are going to get complicated and harder As you move along and longer. Some levels are pretty long. Just make it to the ballerina and move on.

I rated the gameplay of AtmaSphere with a 7.1.
It has to be your thing, but all in all, this is a pretty neat and relaxing game!

Sound and Graphics

Graphics

The graphics of this game feel at certain points a bit basic, but at other moments it feels quite all right as you look at the background, and you see the trees. Most of the levels do feel a bit different. However, you can see the repetitive tile set coming back as well as with the same boxes and same traps. This makes it a bit repetitive to look at, since you want something new and fresh when you conquer the hard level. But as it is just supposed to be a relaxing game at the guess, mediocre is good enough to settle for.

Sound

As for the soundtrack, they are calming and soothing while you try to focus on rolling your ball Straight Ahead since you would rather not fall into that abyss. The sound effects, like the raindrops and thumps as your ball falls down the slope, it is quite relaxing as well. Raindrops, thump. Yeah, this is a good game. It looks admirable, it sounds impressive, mediocre.

I rated the sound and graphics of AtmaSphere with a 7.6!
This might be the best element of this game.

What did I think after playing AtmaSphere?

While this game was soothing and relaxing as it is supposed to be, there’s one a flaw that kept itching at me, that nagged me. It was like repetitive rolling over and over and then even more rolling. Well, I just collected the same old goods every damn level, it is so repetitive. Why does it have to be this repetitive? I am just rolling and well the raindrops do improve it, but still, why is it this repetitive? I dislike the repetitive nature of all these levels. At least there are slight changes, like the traps, or I would have been bored out of my mind already like, damn what a repetitive game.

I rated AtmaSphere with a 6.5 after playing.
I just wish there was a bit more diversity.

What are my personal thoughts about AtmaSphere?

The funniest thing in this game, I think it would be when you reach the end and all these hearts appear on the screen. I did enjoy most of the levels but, like I said, repetitive. I guess it can be a fun and good game if this is your niche. But I guess this is not exciting enough for me, I’d rather blow up some demons or aliens or maybe solve a mind-boggling puzzle. Yes, a puzzle sounds good.

Rating

My personal rating of AtmaSphere is a 5.8
Too relaxing for me.

Last Words

Pros

Cons

I wonder what happens when Ballard meets Ballerina at the end of the level, I can see them rolling into their house while hearts appear on the screen. Ballard lights a candle while looking at Ballerina, you know what, I am going to stop right here.
