Ground Digger review

Introduction

Today we are going to look at a fairly simple mobile game, but why would this game not deserve a review? We’ll look at Ground Digger. What is your purpose in this game? Well, I think you can guess, but we will go into that in the gameplay. There is no story in this game; thus I won’t add a story section.

What did I think before playing Ground Digger?

My wife and I were going on a long ride with the tram; thus we needed something fun and simple to play. While looking through the Play Store, we found this game. It reminded both of us about our childhood days, back when we visited websites to play simple flash games? Remember those days? Man, I am old, let’s just look at the Play Store Page.

The Play Store page

Well, it seemed all quite straightforward, you are a digging machine. And what do digging machines do? Well, they dig in the ground, but this game also lets you summon minions and there seem to be other areas to explore. Let’s dig into this game.

Rating

I rated Ground Digger with a 5.9 before playing.
This looked like a game that is a one and done, but we will see!

Gameplay

The game starts very simple, you have some ground to dig through. As you start digging, you will collect some cubes that look like grass. These are needed to buy minions and upgrade their power. While this might seem like a strange thing to upgrade early on, it will be immensely helpful later.

As you dig, you will find gems and other loot, these can be sold at the shop to gain new coins. These coins are important to upgrade your digging machine. If you do not upgrade your own machine, then it will become impossible to dig through any blocks. To get to the new stage and dig deeper, you will need to collect a set number of gems, every few stages, a rainbow level will come by for bonus loot.

Before going to the new stage, it is important to find three keys that are hidden inside the ground. If you find all of these, then you will be able to open a bonus chest. You could get extra land or even coins. If you dig fast while looking for keys, you get a small boost. Remember, your machine can run out of fuel, just go back up and tank some gas. There are also ads, plenty of ads.

Rating

I rated the gameplay of Ground Digger with a 5.7
This is a fun game, for a little while, it gets boring rapidly and there are many ads. Like, a lot of ads!

Sound and Graphics

Graphics

The graphics are quite basic, nothing too special. If you want to get a new color machine, you will need to either pay or watch an ad. There are a few differences in each area, but that is all there is too it.

Sound

There is barely any music and the sound effects get annoying rapidly; however, I have to admit, the falling sound is good, and funny.

Rating

I rated the sound and graphics with a 6.2
Nothing too special to see here.

What did I think after playing Ground Digger?

I played quite a lot during the trip, but I got so sleepy, I fell asleep. Like, this game is excellent at putting you to sleep. Not that is boring, but just the same repetitive movements over and over. There is not much else to this game, it is just something that seems to be on a repeating loop.

Rating

I rated Ground Digger with a 5.5 after playing.
Just a meh game.

What are my personal thoughts about Ground Digger?

I should have tried to find a better game.

Rating

My personal Rating of Ground Digger is a 5.0
