Tales of Symphonia remastered review

Are you strong enough to finish this tale?

Tales of Symphonia remastered review

Introduction

Today we are going to look at a remastered game, it is none other than Tales of Symphonia, if you have ever had the Gamecube, chances are big you have played this. I did as well, and I was overly interested in playing this game with my wife, this is a grand tale of many characters who have to face the greatest odds to get what they want.

What did I think before playing Tales of Symphonia Remastered?

I bought this game for my wife when we were on vacation, I had seen a gaming store and they sold the special edition! I know my wife loves Role-playing games; thus I decided to buy this as a gift for her. Needless to say, she was thrilled, we even decided to buy Tales of Symphonia 2, but for now, we are going to check the Nintendo Page of Tales of Symphonia 1 for more information.

The Nintendo Page

The first thing that I noticed was the graphical updates, it looked almost as good as I thought it looked when I was much younger. I advise you do not look back as to how it truly looked because, well, it was not as pretty as now. We also decided to start watching the Tales of Symphonia anime. For now, we eagerly want to play this remastered classic game!

Rating

I rated Tales of Symphonia with a 9.6 before playing.
This remaster seems like a great game to sink many hours into.

Story

The story is very long and hard to put in not so many words. It all starts with Lloyd following The chosen one to the temple. Due to many events, they soon find their selves with a whole party to release the seals and regenerate the world.

Rating

I rated the Story of Tales of Symphonia with a 9.1. While the game does a wonderful way to tell the tale of this epic story, it gets dragged out just a little by the end.

Gameplay

The gameplay is like you would expect from many Role playing games, the biggest part is fighting monsters, gaining experience and leveling up. That is indeed what you will be doing, and you can even do it with a friend. That is right, battles can be played in co-op. In battles, you can use special techs, and as you use them, more techs will be unlocked. As you play, you will also unlock extra skills, but you will need ex-gems for this, they can be leveled one to four.

There will be a huge overworld map to explore, if you find a certain pillar, you can also use a mount. There are many places to visit, or even side quests to find. Once you get to the seals, you will find out this game is not just about fighting, there will be puzzles that you need to solve. These can range from very obvious, to, what the hell am I doing? There are, plenty of dungeons to complete!

If you are playing with computers, it is wise to equip them with good gear, but most of all, you can adjust their strategy. Do you want the mage to stay far away from battle? Be sure to insert that setting, do they need to save their TP, or spend it all? No worries, they do recover some TP after each battle. Once you have all characters, there are many ways to build your team. Tales of Symphonia has so much more to offer, but you will have to find that out for yourself.

Rating

I rated the gameplay of Tales of Symphonia with a 9.8.
There are a few minor flaws with this game, but most of them can be waved away, you are going to enjoy this game a lot!

Sound and Graphics

Graphics

The graphics of this game truly show what a remaster can do to a game. Everything looks good, there are a few minor graphical glitches but there are so many characters, areas, monsters and much more. I loved the many cities that you visit while traveling around.

Sound

There are numerous soundtracks, many of them are just, epic! You also have great English voice acting. There are many touching scenes, and the ambiance with the sound effects are always spectacular!

Rating

I rated the sound and graphics of Tales of Symphonia Remaster with a 9.7
If you loved the original, you will be blown away by this remaster, the anime scenes are just, awesome!

What did I think after playing Tales of Symphonia remaster?

There are a few problems with this game, but thinking back to the fact that game came out in the Gamecube era, that is to be expected. For example, when you get to ride vehicles, you will soon learn that the controls are very swanky. You will have a lot of trouble getting to where you go, especially since there is no real map yet. You do have a way of tracking side quest by checking the synopsis page.

One thing we barely did in this game was cooking, I know it is a whole thing to find the right recipes and cook after a battle, but we barely found a use for it. We used Raine for healing, like, the entire game. You can find different ways to play this game.

Rating

I rated Tales of Symphonia Remaster with an 8.9 after playing.
Despite a few small problems, this game is still amazingly fun to play.

What are my personal thoughts about Tales of Symphonia Remaster?

My wife was player one in this game, I merely assisted in battles, but my favorite character soon became Regal, he just kicks people down, that is quite fun. He also has some neat techs to use.

Rating

My personal Rating of Tales of Symphonia Remaster is a 9.9
