Megaman X2 revamped review

Let's resurrect Zero!

Megaman X2 revamped review

Introduction

Today we are going to look at the second game of Megaman X series. Will this game have improvements upon the old game, or is it just more of the same? What is certain, you will be shooting your buster to bust up robots, turn them into scrap! Or, make a few mistakes and get turned into scrap yourself. There is a better story in this game, but I will guide you to the Megaman X Legacy collection review for a thorough story section.

What did I think before replaying Megaman X2?

It has been a long time since I played Megaman X2, and this is one of the Megaman X games I like less compared to the other ones, I am unsure as to why that is. Maybe it is the stages, perhaps it is because of how the bosses are designed. Who knows, it might even be the difficulty. It is just something I cannot put my finger on. For more information, we go to the fandom page.

The Fandom page

https://megaman.fandom.com/wiki/Mega_Man_X2
This page will tell you everything you need to know about this game, including on what weapons and upgrades you will receive by beating the bosses. Of course, there is also the special attack that replaces the Hadouken from the previous game. There are more secrets in this game, but there are also more spikes and pits to fall in, and these cause instant death.

Rating

I rated Megaman X2 with an 8.1 before playing this game.
It is time to join the X- hunters.

Gameplay

This game starts you out with a neat upgrade from the previous game. The dash move, this allows you to jump further and get through the stages faster. If you want this dash to be even better, then you will need to find the capsule to upgrade your legs. Once you have upgraded your legs, you can even dash in the air. You can be sure that you will need this ability to find plenty of secrets.

You may have gathered plenty of weapons in the previous game but this time around you only start with your buster. Why is that? Well, some guy, I have no clue what his name came up with the theory that since this game takes place six months after the first game, the new mavericks, or robot masters are immune to these outdated weapons. Thus, you will need to gather new weapons that are effective against these mavericks. All in all, it is just a gimmick to make sure you are not overpowered from the start.

Not only do you need to kill the mavericks and find the bad guy, again. You will also need to find the parts of Zero that have been scattered throughout the whole world. If you fail to do so, then this will have dire consequences, and you will get the bad ending of Megaman X2. There are three parts that you will have to collect.

Rating

I rated the gameplay of Megaman X2 with an 8.7
While I like the idea of this game, and it is executed well, it just feels like more of the same.

Sound and Graphics

Graphics

While the graphics of Megaman X1 are already excellent, this game pushes it even further. There are rainstorms, better racing cars and even more monsters that will destroy you until you have the upgrade to reduce incoming damage. This game also does more with the plot. It is not perfect yet. The graphics compares very well with Megaman X1.

Sound

The soundtracks of Megaman X2 are astonishing, and just as in the previous game, all of them are a delight for your ears.

Rating

I rated the sound and graphics of Megaman X2 with a 9.1.
Time for some energetic tunes!

What did I think after playing Megaman X2?

There are some levels that can be hard in the beginning until you have more upgrades, or even health. Since falling to the ground will put you back at the beginning of the level. Or touching a spike will instantly kill you. The way it should be in old games. The bosses are difficult to beat, even if you have their weakness. It is good to look up the right order on the internet.

Another big problem is that if you do not play on an emulator, there is no way to save your progress. Once again, you have to work with passwords. I hope you have your pen and paper nearby. If you want to avoid this issue, you might want to use Retroarch on Steam.

Rating

I rated Megaman X2 with an 8.8 after playing.
This is yet another fun game in the Megaman X series.

What are my personal thoughts about Megaman X2

I like the first Megaman X more, I don’t know, this one just does not hit the spot for me.
