Resident Evil 4 Remake: Separate Ways review

Ada knows who Leon is, he is of course, Agent Leon!

Resident Evil 4 Remake: Separate Ways review

Introduction

Today we are going to check out the DLC that you can purchase for Resident Evil 4. This DLC is called Separate Ways. In this DLC you will be playing as Ada and find out what has been happening on the island with her. While Leon is running around to find out he is now a new Leon and no longer the Leon from the previous game. Ada is still swinging around with her grappling hook. Is this DLC worthy of your money? Simone played this game after Resident Evil 4 remake to find that out.

What did Simone think before playing Resident Evil 4 Remake: Separate Ways?

Simone had a lot of when playing Resident Evil 4, and I had a great time watching her wreck zombies. Thus, we both decided it might be a good idea to also review the DLC. It ties in with the main story and shows you some missing gaps in the story. We both also thought it had quite a lot of content, and different gameplay mechanics, enough to warrant a review. Time to check the PlayStation 5 page for more information.

There is not much about the new gameplay elements in the text itself. However, the trailer shows Ada flying around with her grappling gun, traversing different paths but also paths that Leon has traversed. If you want to find out what happened while Leon was finding his new Leon, then this DLC is a must play, but is it worth it? Time to go over the story!

Rating

I rated Resident Evil 4 Remake: Separate Ways with an 8.2 before playing.
This DLC seemed like a DLC worth investing in.

Story

While Leon is busy finding out who Leon really is, Ada is already on the island to retrieve a very rare item. The amber with the Las Plagas parasite in it. Failure is not an option, Ada might be a trained spy, but even she understands, sometimes the job is not worth everything.

Rating

I rate the story of Resident Evil 4 Remake: Separate Ways with a 9.8
I love how this DLC ties in with the story and how there is a lot of story content.

Gameplay

While many elements do return from the main game, there are also plenty of new elements that this DLC introduces. Ada is a lot more squishy for example, unable to find armor to reduce damage. And just like Leon, she can use herbs to increase her maximum health, which is a must if you want to survive as Ada. Once again, many zombies will try to swarm you, along with entirely new bosses that will test your mettle.

As Ada, you have plenty of chapters to explore all the places that Leon also goes, with a few new areas as well. Ada will be at these places at different times, and closer to Leon than you might expect. Instead of starting at the village, your beginning point will be in the castle, don’t worry, the castle will come back later. Ada seems to be able to sneak around much better, which is useful since ammo is very limited in this DLC.

One unique feature of Ada is that she has a grappling hook. You can’t go everywhere Willy-nilly, there are places where you can cross gaps, grab high ledges and more. Another new mechanic is that boardwalks crash if you stand too long on them. Resulting in immediate death. Grappling towards and enemy will take him out.

Just as with Leon, you will have the ability to buy items from the merchant, clear missions for special items and more. For a DLC, there is a lot of content and chapters to cruise through. You can also play the DLC on higher difficulties or with a new game+ to ensure you get the most time out of this DLC. If you enjoyed playing Resident Evil 4, then according to Simone, the DLC is a must play.

I rated the gameplay of Resident Evil 4 Remake: Separate Ways with an 8.3
There is a lot of new content while also sticking to the game mechanics that were introduced in the main story line.

Sound and Graphics

Graphics

The graphical quality is the same as in the main story. There are new bosses to fight, even a boss with two stages. But I do wonder, does Ada go bald when looking down a scope?

Sound

The soundtracks are once again spot on for this DLC. The voice acting is superb as well. I do enjoy the creepy sounds the zombies make, but it is very difficult to make out where enemies come from.

Rating

I rated the sound and graphics of Resident Evil 4 Remake: Separate Ways with an 8.1
Except for the problems with audio cues of where enemies are coming from, the rest is good.

What did Simone think after playing Resident Evil 4 Remake: Separate Ways?

Except for enemies spawning behind you, Simone thoroughly enjoyed this DLC. This time around, she got the rocket launcher as soon as possible and saved it for the final encounter. Adam Sandler got a rocket in his face and he was beaten. But there is a final segment with time. You need to bring a special rocket launcher to Leon. Maybe Leon finally learns who Leon really is, Ada seems to know.

Rating

I rated Resident Evil 4 Remake: Separate Ways with a 7.9 after playing.
This DLC is filled with a lot of content, new gameplay mechanics while adding to the already existing mechanics, just superb.

Last Words

Pros

Cons

This is what a DLC should be, ten chapters to rummage through while finding treasures, clearing missions, and finding new lore. If you liked playing as Leon, then playing as Ada and experiencing the other side of the story won’t disappoint you.

The Final Rating

8.5/10

  3. I like how we saw some of the events from different point of view. It looks like RE4 and this game were build together because the different points of view didn’t feel shoe horned.
