Today we are going to look at a recent poll winner, Alice Madness Returns. How mad do you need ot be to play this game? Get your hookah ready, or you might not understand what the caterpillar has to say to you. If you want something trippy, then this game is not only trippy but also very creepy. Oh, and it will be a miracle if you can understand what the characters are trying to tell you. Moral of this game? Do not follow furry creatures if they are clearly leading you into a hole!
What did I think before playing Alice Madness Returns?
I have always had a keen interest in the Alice in Wonderland movies, books and other media. Then I found out this game is on Gamepass, the game that I wanted to play for a very long time, but somehow I never got around to it. My wife also enjoys the Alice in Wonderland media, and we were both excited to try out this game. For more information we went to the Steam page!

The Steam page is very clear on what you should expect from this game. You will be traveling through wonderland with powerful weapons while trying to save it from a great evil. While you are traveling through wonderland you will gain new abilities. You can shrink a lot in this game, there are a lot of secrets to unfold in this game! This is indeed a dark and gritty Alice in Wonderland game, if you dislike that, then turn away now!

Story
Alice is once again going back to Wonderland but in her absence, an infernal train is corrupting wonderland and everything is breaking down. Alice’s memories are scattered all over the place. It is up to Alice to gather her memories and save Wonderland, while finding out the truth!

Holy cow, the story is very good and insane, it took me all the way to the ending to realize what the heck is going on. Until then, I had been questioning my own sanity. It must be because all the characters talk very wonky.
Gameplay
The gameplay of Alice Madness returns is split up in six chapters, each chapter will see you travel through a new area where you will either get a new upgrade, or perhaps even a new weapon. You will be platforming your way through wonderland, and puzzling! Although, the corruption has made sure that a lot of enemies are out for Alice’s blood. There is only one way to get rid of them, take up the vorpal blade and slash them to pieces! No mercy for those monsters!
In each world, there are many secrets to collect, like the bottles that are hidden in every nook or cranny, or perhaps the rose petals that you can gather to increase your max health. Make sure to check out suspicious walls, some of them are fake! As you go through the worlds, you will also get access to different weapons, for example a ranged weapon that shoots pepper. Pepper your enemies to death, or shoot pig snouts for secrets!
While you make your way through the mysterious places of Wonderland, you will collect many teeth from various enemies. These are useful as you can use teeth to upgrade your weapons. As you increase the strength of your weapons, they will not only become stronger, their appearance will also be altered. Upgrading your ranged weapons is useful as you can shoot more pepper or tea, before your weapon needs to cool down! Burn them, or pepper them!Â

There are many neat gameplay mechanics and they all work very well together.
Sound and Graphics
Graphics
While this game might be quite old, the graphics have withstood the test of time. It still is creepy, dark, and very disturbing at some times. The different areas are all unique, and a nice touch is that Alice has a different dress in each world. There is even a wide plethora of enemies to fight, but sadly, only one real boss. But this game is about the journey to the infernal train.
Sound
The soundtracks in this game are unique and amazing. But the best thing, is the voice acting, it just adds this, perfectly creepy layer that everyone talks riddles and mysteries. Or just, such weird sentences that you literally have no clue what they just said!

What did I think after playing Alice Madness Returns?
Both my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this game. The weird scenes that you will be traveling through are amazing! The levels are fun to traverse through. There are many different puzzles and challenges that will keep you immersed in this game. I think, that I liked the underwater world the most! Playing hide and seek with the insane octopus was very fun!
The combat in this game works properly, it can be tough at some times when the crowd goes wild and a lot of enemies will come for you. Luckily, once you get the teapot cannon, you can blow up multiple enemies in one hit! Upgrading this weapon was a good choice! It also does massive damage to single opponents! In the end, we managed to upgrade all weapons to the max!

What are my personal thoughts about Alice Madness Returns?
Trying to understand what the characters were saying drove me mad! What is going, I have lost my sanity! What is Wonderland!? Yeah, this game is fun, it fully embraces the fact, that we are all mad here, being mad is good, will you be insane with me!?
