Introduction
Today we are going to look at another mod of Doom, this time we are going brutal! Is this game better than Atomic Doom, or should you rather stick with Atomic Doom? I intend to find out the answer in this review. We will off course be offing some more demons. Because, what fun would Doom be without demons, we could ask Doom 3 that! Nevertheless, there is no story, just demons getting their brains blown out!
What did I think before playing Brutal Doom?
I expected something along the likes of Atomic Doom, upgraded jumping, looking around, more weapons. All those kinds of things. There is however no telling what you will encounter when playing a modded game. There might suddenly be something you never expected, or not at all! It is time to look at the mod page!

It all boils down to, bigger and louder is better. If it makes a big boom, then it is better. Which is something I can agree with, but it does need to be fine-tuned. I am hoping that the difficulty is not going to be too easy with the new guns. As with Atomic Doom, you will need a WAD file and GZdoom. These can be found by using the powers of Google!

I rate Brutal Doom with an 8.5 before playing. To be honest, before starting Atomic Doom, I had higher expectations compared to Brutal Doom.
Gameplay
The first thing we need to do is choose a difficulty, which already got quite overwhelming, and I was not sure what to do or to pick. Since there are so many options. Like what is black metal for difficulty? What even is the realism mode? More damage? Less damage to the demons, I was not sure but after inspecting it, it seems you will receive 700% more damage. Welp, time to die! It is always fun to start with an SMG.
Off course there are more options, like running a lot and other things like having female sounds. Wait this is not DoomGuy, I am DoomLady, sorry, I had to do that. Nevertheless, your character is insanely fast, run and shoot those bastards. There are some new props in the levels and changes made to make sure you stay on your toes. It became clear, that despite choosing hurt me plenty, the game was very easy. I barely had to pay attention and I lost focus.
You can just run through the game and enjoy the slaughter of demons. I should have gone back to the options’ menu to increase the difficulty, but I did not feel like it at all. The weapons were fun to use and they looked neat. However, it did not seem as revolutionary as those of Atomic Doom.Â

I rate the gameplay of Brutal Doom with an 8.2
While the game is fun, it did seem too easy, I think I might need that 700% extra damage on me! That will make me think twice about running into enemy fire.
Sound and Graphics
Graphics
The graphics are fun to look at, especially some of the new props places in the levels. Like a spaceship but the game felt less polished than I had expected. There are some new enemies, but I saw nothing groundbreaking. Most of the enemies are the standard fodder whom are easily mowed down with the SMG or the new minigun.
Sound
The soundtracks are always fun in Doom, but the best part are the explosions and death moans of the demons! Die you stupid demons and let that blood flow!

I rate the sound and graphics of Brutal Doom with a 8.5
While Doom is always amazing, I think I would prefer the normal Doom or Atomic Doom compared to Brutal Doom.
What did I think after playing Brutal Doom?
While this game was fun to play, and it is a great mod, don’t get me wrong, but this is the kind of mod I would advise to people that like to play casually, instead of looking for high difficulty. If you love running and gunning, then this game is perfect for you, but if you are more of a tactical player, then you should opt for Atomic Doom.
This mod also has grenades, but I loved the grenades in Atomic Doom more, not only did they look more realistic, they worked better. These grenades have a huge blast range, killing you in the process if you are too close. While Atomic Doom’s grenade felt just perfect with the range you needed to keep from the grenade.

I rate Brutal Doom with a 7.7 after playing.
I did enjoy some running and gunning but it makes me lose my focus fast, oh and jumping felt off.
What are my personal thoughts about Brutal Doom?
While I had fun with this mod, I did not enjoy it as much as I had hoped, I am aching to continue playing Atomic Doom.

My personal Rating of Brutal Doom is a 6.8.

- Face off with a lot of demons in Brutal Doom
- Find new weapons to use in combat, like a grenade!
- Play through the original campaign with a new point of view
- There are new props in many of the levels
- There is more blood to cover the walls with
- You can push the barrels away, which is fun
- The death moans of demons
Cons
- Brutal Doom has less polished graphics
- Jumping feels off.
- The difficulty is too low
- You will need to download some files to play this game.
- The bonus episode is not included.
While both of the mods have their own strength and weaknesses, I would say that Atomic Doom is better in my personal and professional opinion.
