House of the Dead Overkill review

It is fucking time for the motherfucking bonus cutscene!

House of the Dead Overkill review

Introduction

Today we are going to take a look at the game, house of the dead Overkill! Once again, we won’t be using any Z words. They are mutants, deal with it! We will once again follow the story of Agent G and Isaac Washington, but this time, we will be shooting for real, with added scenes, larger levels, and more guns.

What did I think before playing House of the dead

While it is in one way, the same game as Typing of the dead, it is actually very different. Now instead of typing, we are going to use our controller to aim like in a normal shooter game. This game also runs on rails, meaning you just need to aim and shoot, aim for the head, enough headshots, and you might get a goregasm! There is no real Steam Page for this game, since this is a game included in the Typing of the Dead game, so we will be skipping that section.

Rating

I rate House of the Dead-overkill with a 7.7
I was wondering if there would be much difference compared to the other game, but there was no real way to check though, I was very excited to shoot more mutants though!

Story

This time you will follow the same story again as you shoot your way through multiple hordes of mutant. However, some scenes have been expanded upon, and the missing cutscene is here as well, and, it was, amazing!

Rating

I rate the story of House of the Dead with 9.2.
It is the same story as Typing of the Dead, it just gets expanded a lot!

Gameplay

Instead of now having to type the mutants into pieces, you will need to make actual bullet holes. There are more mutants to pulverize for you this time. The levels are bigger, longer, and harder. There is also no slow motion item to help you with the tide. However, you can still find med kits if you get bit in the face by mutants.

There are even more collectibles to gather, but it can be hard to shoot them when you are busy killing mutants. This is a great game to play in co-op. However, that means even more mutants! As you get toured throughout the new levels, you will also come across stacks of cash. These can be hard to spot, it is important that you shoot them to gain gold!

As you gain gold after each level, you will have the opportunity to buy new guns. Off course, I took the shotgun! Maybe you have too much gold, then it is time to upgrade your weapon, more damage, more ammo, less recoil! This means you will be able to take down more hordes of mutants. You can take two guns with you into a level. Money gets hard to earn after your first play through, so choose carefully!

Rating

I rate the gameplay of House of the Dead with a 9.0.
The expanded levels are great, it is also nice that you can choose what kind of gun you want to use.

Sound and Graphics

Graphics

For the graphics, not much have changed, except for the new pieces of levels that have been added. Along with the missing cutscene. My wife and I had been wading through hordes of mutants just to see if this cutscene had been added. And lo and behold, it was! Our cheers of joy were insane at finding out, we were going to see the missing reel!

Sound

The levels are longer, so we got to listen to some of those sick beats even longer!

Rating

I rate the sound and graphics of House of the Dead with a 9.6.
Yes, yes, yes! The new cutscene was totally worth it to play through the game a third time!

What did I think after playing House of the Dead?

It was harder to use your guns to kill mutants compared to using the keyboard. It felt different enough that you could classify it as a new game. Or maybe just a really expanded mod, one way, or the other way. Getting adjusted to shooting the mutants was hard at first but as we got new and bigger guns, it got easier! The final boss was insanely difficult though!

In the final boss fight, you suddenly have a minigun in the Typing of the Dead, now we have finally learned where it came from. This was an epic inclusion for this version of the game. We cannot wait to start playing House of the dead 2, yes it has older graphics but who cares, we need to prevent the confusion in that city as well!

Rating

I rate House of the Dead with a 9.0 after playing!
We typed like a motherfucker, now we have shot mutants like a motherfucker!

What are my personal thoughts about House of the Dead?

Who doesn’t love taking down hordes of mutants, what are you waiting for, either get typing or shooting!

Rating

My personal Rating of House of the Dead is a 9.1.
This game feels like an old classic gem.

    • Aiming was harder compared to typing, but perhaps it is because my wife and I type a lot.

  16. On-rails shooters are great for co-op play, it's a shame that nowadays the industry has practically forgotten about this sub-genre
