Jurassic World Evolution 2 review

This whole game is a tutorial!

Jurassic World Evolution 2 review

Introduction

We are going to look at the sequel of Jurassic World Evolution, is this another great game? Will we once again tame dinosaurs as we put them in a cage, dig up their fossils and breed more of them? We were very interested in what dinosaurs would be available or how the new chaos theory would work.  The campaign was amazing in Jurassic World Evolution 1, I was wondering how they would improve it in this sequel! It was great in the first game when you had bred a new dinosaur, and it would walk out of the breeding facility! After doing some research and playing the game, I have decided against writing a story in this review, the campaign is only three hours long and there is barely any story, I will go into detail in the gameplay section.

What did I think before playing Jurassic World Evolution 2?

I was dying to find out what the new dinosaurs would be, in this review I wanted to focus on the campaign mode of this game. In the previous installment, the campaign in the previous game was huge, it would also let you do things your way! This game would have fliers, swimmers, and even more dinosaurs! Would there be more islands to create parks on? Maybe we can create parks this time around on the main land, we will not be looking into challenges, sandbox mode or even chaos theory. For more information, we went to the Steam page!

The Steam page

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1244460/Jurassic_World_Evolution_2/
The page seems a bit too simple, it all seems to hinge on a movie and not forging its own story. It all seems to be building on new landscapes and graphics. If only there were more dinosaurs, I would be happy! I did not know what to expect from the campaign, we were very interested to find out what it has in store for us, let us hope that this winner of the May poll is a wonderful game!

Rating

I rate Jurassic World Evolution 2 with a 5.5 before playing.
While it seems to have better graphics, it was very unclear on what to expect from this game.

Gameplay

The campaign of Jurassic World Evolution 2 is just a tutorial, yes, you read that correct! In the campaign, there is no building your own park or even breeding dinosaurs! The campaign consist of only five missions and if you take your time, each mission will take about thirty minutes, meaning if you only want to play the campaign, you have just paid a lot of money for barely three hours of gameplay.

As there is no breeding, you need to catch the dinosaurs, but the sad part is that you do not even get to decide what dinosaurs you want. The whole campaign is a tutorial, you cannot do whatever you want, there is not even a mission system like in Jurassic World Evolution 2, you do not even interact with guests in the campaign. Just as we finished the fifth mission, we thought they had explained all the mechanics, and we could begin the game, but alas, the game ended.

When we were trying to make a video, we saw a new campaign was added, we had hoped for more missions, real gameplay! However, when we tried to open it up, it would cost us even more money. Thus, all we got were a few dinosaurs for the main campaign, no guests, and a lot of handholding in the campaign, it was horribly boring!

Rating

I rate the gameplay of Jurassic World Evolution 2 with a 3.0
What is even worse, that the second campaign is just another movie plot. Whatever happened to new stories?

Sound and Graphics

Graphics

While we did not see all the dinosaurs, we saw a few, and they looked great. What is odd though, in the campaign we never saw the water dinosaurs despite the game promoting those dinosaurs! It is very odd that these are not in the campaign, what is also odd that the guests are not in the campaign. This game seemed like a high definition upgrade alongside a DLC. While you can be happy with new landscapes, Jurassic World evolution 1 looked even better, despite having lesser graphics.

Sound

The soundtracks in the campaign were distracting, there was a storm which looked great, except for the fact it ended in about five seconds and after that another tutorial mission ended.

Rating

I rate the sound and graphics of Jurassic World Evolution 2 with a 5.5
This game looks like a high definition edition of Jurassic World Evolution 1!

What did I think after playing Jurassic World Evolution 2?

We were so excited to try out this game with the new water dinosaurs, the campaign also seemed interesting to us, to our shock we cleared the campaign in a few hours. Just as we thought that we got to build our own campaign park, we had finished the game without actually even touching any gameplay.

Rating

I rate Jurassic World Evolution 2 with a 2.3.
If you want to play a huge tutorial, this is a great game, if you are actually looking for a good game and not to waste your money, you should get the first game in the series.

What are my personal thoughts about Jurassic World Evolution 2?

I was very disappointed in this game, luckily it was on game pass, if we had actually paid money for this game, we would have almost been angry at how the developers handled this game.

Rating

My personal Rating of Jurassic World Evolution 2 is a 1,7
In my opinion, it is best to avoid this game.

Pros

Cons

If you are interested in gameplay that involves building a dinosaur park, you should pick up the first game or even Parkasaurus! You should just forget that this game exists.

  2. It's a commercial product and not a gameplay product. It's a shame because the first opus was good and they only needed to improve everything and go deeper in gameplay

  6. I still can't get over how incredibly stupid Frontier is being with putting Denuvo in all their games. It's not like they're some clueless too-big-to-fail publisher, they're a self-publishing mid-size developer, and yet they act as if they were EA or Ubisoft.

    • Acting like EA is not a good thing, they have horrible methods of earning money!

  11. It is worth pointing out that I'm almost certain the campaign in the Biosyn DLC was supposed to be the campaign at launch. But Jurassic World Dominion was delayed, so they had to cobble together a 'placeholder' campaign. Either that or they were forced to cut out everything that linked to Dominion.

    • That would make sense, they could have just added it as the second campaign instead of asking 20 dollar for a campaign that should be available from the start!

  16. $60 for such a short, bare-bones game is highway robbery! I'd pick this up in a bundle, maybe, if it came with the DLCs.

  19. JWE (1) already showed that JWE 2 is not interesting for me. Mainly due to the content/ DLC policy making it a very expensive game in the end for rather little content.

    • I hate that they cut content from the game and then sell it separately!

  21. Too bad about the campaign, it seems like they thought people just want to play sandbox and that's why they didn't make an effort to really do anything. And here I thought Frontier would have learned something from 1...

    • Sandbox is the most boring mode ever! Who wants infinite money without doing any missions?
We can replay the movies again just as in the first game, which is kind of odd!

  22. Sounds like another game that relies on it's ties to a famous franchise! It's got really good graphics and could have been really cool! Maybe it should have just been a DLC to the first game...
