Resident Evil 3 remake review

Time to face the land sharks in the sewer!

Resident Evil 3 remake review

Introduction

Once again we are going back to the zombies! This time we will be looking at Resident Evil 3! Can we blow up the zombies while surviving Raccoon City again? This time, however, we will be in the shoes of Jill Valentine! At certain moments in the game, you will also control Carlos. This remake has been modified a lot to mainstream the gameplay, I was wondering if this game was still fun to play!

What did I think before playing Resident Evil 3?

We had a great time when playing Resident Evil 2, thus we hoped that the next game in the series would be awesome too. It has been a long time since I have played the original Resident Evil 3. The graphics were horrible back then, well for now. I can still remember that Nemesis would be chasing you everywhere you go! For more information, I went to check the Steam Page!

The Steam Page

https://store.steampowered.com/app/952060/Resident_Evil_3/
There was almost no information on the Steam Page, all it says is that you are taking the role of Jill Valentine. We have to assume that it will be once again as great as Resident Evil 2 Remake. What could possible go wrong in a remake of a zombie game?

Rating

I rate Resident Evil 3 with an 8.1 before playing.
There is not much information on what to expect of this game on Steam.

Story

The story of Jill Valentine takes place before and after the story of Resident Evil 2. You are being chased by a monster that wants to eliminate all stars members. It is your task to escape from this monster while finding out the truth behind the outbreak of Raccoon City!

Rating

I rate the story of Resident Evil 3 with an 8.4.
While the story is fun, it is not as good as the previous remake of Resident Evil 2!

Gameplay

The gameplay of Resident Evil 3 is much better compared to Resident Evil 2. There is even a dodge button! The map seems easier to read, however, key cards make a comeback! There is no easy backtracking in this game. While you do visit some earlier areas later on. Puzzles seem to be a bit easier if you read the notes, there are also less one hit kill monsters. Once again, the same boss comes back a million times!

You can once again collect hip pouches to upgrade your inventory, which is needed for healing items, sub items, and off course, guns and ammo! This time around, killing zombies goes a lot easier, but your knife is not as strong as in the previous game. Using your knife is also not recommended. Both Jill and Carlos bot have different guns to use.

There are sequences in the game where you need to run away from Nemesis, he can be hurt, however he can not die. If you hurt him enough, he will be stunned. This can take quite some of your ammo, which you are going to need for the final boss fights! If you play the game enough, you can unlock infinite ammo! Even for the rocket launcher!

Rating

I rate the gameplay of Resident Evil 3 with an 8.9.
While there are some missing pieces, I think it is not a big problem, the game feels more streamlined now.

Sound and Graphics

Graphics

The graphics are insanely good. It is almost like watching a movie! The explosion of the rocket launcher are the best! Oh yeah, we also have zombies that need to get killed. These die much faster, but there are also bigger threats, mostly in the sewers, and they can one hit kill you, in quite a gruesome way!

Sound

The soundtracks add to the great graphics, it makes the atmosphere even creepy. As for the sound effects, you mostly hear zombies growling!

Rating

I rate the sound and graphics of Resident Evil 3 with a 9.9.
I like the way how Nemesis keeps devolving the more you beat him up.

What did I think after playing Resident Evil 3?

While the game is much shorter compared to Resident Evil 2, it is still very fun. The game can still be completed with an S rank, even if you use an infinite rocket launcher! Kaboom goes the zombie! The puzzles are very easy as well, there are no complicated vaccine mixing puzzle. The one in the game is quite easy!

there are zombies in this game with sneak mode. They are good at pretending to be dead, and as you pass them, they stand up and attack you! Make sure to check if the body you are walking over is really dead! This is a perfect use of your knife, you also have healing items, the green herbs are needed to remove parasites!

Rating

I rate Resident Evil 3 with an 8.4.
While this game is fun, the previous game was much better!

What are my personal thoughts about Resident Evil 3?

This game was over a bit too soon for my liking, the previous game was a lot longer. The extra scenarios were good, this game only has one mode, instead of four. This means that this game can be completed within five hours.

Rating

My personal Rating of Resident Evil 3 is an 8.1.
This game was over too quick!

I think it is still they should have added multiple scenarios to make the game bigger, it worked perfectly with Resident Evil 2!

  1. Wonder if they will ever mod those cut areas, if they even exist on the files. Really don't like the idea that it might even be shorter than the original...

    • no unfortunately they did not even include those areas in game files, completely cut out

    • They are, if I understand correctly, completely left out.

  12. Not a bad one huh sven, but still I'd not give it more than 7/10 simply because there is no replayability.. RE2 remake has leon/claire walkthroughs and you saw the events from diff perspective

RE3 is simply a oneshot and that's it.. you never have to pick it up again as it offers nothing new even in higher difficulties.

  19. It's a good remake, technically speaking, but too short, I just wish they had not cut areas that were present in the original

    • Those areas were quite a detour, I bet they had reasons to cut that content.
