Sonic Dash review

Just keep running, just keep running!

Sonic Dash review

Introduction

Another Mobile game has hit the floor, it is time for Sonic to start running like he has never run before. Or he might trip over a wooden block that he conveniently cannot go around as this is an endless runner, if you do not trip of course. There are other dangers out on the running lane, but we will get more into that in the gameplay section. There will be no story section in this review, as you will just be running and unlocking characters!

What did I think before playing Sonic Dash?

I have reviewed a lot of different games and genres, then I thought, I barely have any endless runner kind of games that I have reviewed. Well, there are a lot of those games, but I always liked Sonic. And he likes running, there are even two games, but this is just Sonic Dash, who knows, if people like this review, I might review Sonic Dash 2. Since I had no clue what to expect, except for a running Sonic, I am going to the Google Play Store!

The Google Play Store

Not only are you going to run, you are going to dash! Alright that was a weak one, next to running through levels, you will also have boss battles and chances to unlock new characters. Off course, new characters are always fun. But how do they factor into the gameplay? Will they have different stats? Is there a bonus for choosing one character? There is only one way to find out, it is time to run, and run, why are you still running? Because this is an endless runner!

Rating

I rate Sonic Dash with a 7.2 before playing.
This seemed like a fun endless runner with a Sega theme added to it. If you like Sonic, you might give this game some bonus points.

Gameplay

The game starts with learning the basics. Otherwise, you cannot keep running. There are also enemies on the field, but you can kill them by rolling through them. Then they will unleash an animal that they had captured. You are going to need these later. There are some obstacles you will need to roll under, otherwise you are going to trip and your game will be over. Not all obstacles can be run over, sometimes you need to jump.

As you run across the levels, you will pick up rings, these are needed later on. When you have finished a few runs, you will have gathered some animals by also clearing the missions that this game gives you. This is also needed to gain experience points to level up. Leveling up will increase the points you will get for running. Next to experience points, you will gain gems from missions. You can also get them by spinning the prize wheel, this will cost two red rings, or you could watch an advertisement.

The gems are needed to let the animals that you have freed restore the levels that the evil robots have destroyed. If you do not have enough gems, you can complete some missions or try the prize wheel. Some of the characters will give a multiplier to how many animals you rescue at the end of a run. If you want to get farther into the game, you will need to use the rings to upgrade your favorite character. There are also events to unlock special characters, or even gain a massive amount of items.

Rating

I rate the gameplay of Sonic Dash with a 8.1
If you are looking for an endless runner, this is one of the good ones with many characters to unlock and many hours of gameplay awaiting you.

Sound and Graphics

Graphics

The graphics of Sonic Dash are actually very good, you will be visiting multiple zones, which can be access by using the springs at the end of a section. There are also boss fights, these can be hard to time but defeating a boss will net you good rewards. There are many character models and all of them have their own style when running or performing tricks.

Sound

The soundtracks are fun and change depending on the zone you are in. The boss battles have more upbeat soundtracks. The sound effects are as you would expect from a Sonic game. They are what we have come to know and love since the start of Sonic games, nothing unique here, just a lot of nostalgia.

I rate the sound and graphics of Sonic Dash with a 7.7
this is pretty good for a mobile Sonic game!

What did I think after playing Sonic Dash?

It started to get hard to gather enough gems later on, but that is to be expected. You cannot expect an easy run all the time. If you keep on completing missions, you will unlock new levels, and new characters by restoring the levels. If you are a fashion victim, you can choose some other settings for the levels you are recreating, but It’s going to cost you some more gems!

The upgrades you buy for a character are not shared. Thus, you need rings for all of your favorite characters, however, all new level ups for your characters will give you more experience points. This means that the more rings you spend, the more experience points you will get for leveling up. My favorite character so far is Sonic with Excalibur.

Rating

I rate Sonic Dash with a 7.5 after playing.
This is actually a mobile game that is not asking for money, you can get anything easily by partaking in the events and just playing. It might take some to complete this game 100%!

What are my personal thoughts about Sonic Dash?

I don’t play a lot of Sonic games or even endless runners, but I was pleasantly surprised with how easy this game is to pick up for one run and then put down again. It means you are not stuck for a long time completing a level. There is a lot to do, and the missions grow more difficult as you level up, giving you more gems and experience points. It gives the game a balanced feeling.

My personal Rating of Sonic Dash is a 7.9
It is time to keep on running!

    • Sonic might be hooked on rings, he can never get enough of them, and if he loses them, he scrounges to get them back.
