Super Mario 3D World review

Once more to space we go, for what reason we do not know!

Super Mario 3D World review

Introduction

Today we will be jumping into another Super Mario game, however this time it is not Peach that got kidnapped, and she is actually a playable character! She does have a little problem of updraft, since she can float for short periods of time! Furthermore, Toad is also joining the fray! This is a game that you can play co-op, there are a total of twelve worlds for you to visit!

What did I think before Super Mario 3D World?

My wife and I were both very interested in this game, despite my wife not liking platformers that much, she rather uses a sniper to put a bullet somewhere down below! My wife, off course, would choose Toad to play, she is a huge Toad fan! It seems we need to save pixies or something since Bowser has kidnapped them!
This game was also the winner of the poll in July 2021! Here we go again, to the Nintendo page for more information!

The Nintendo page

https://supermario3dworld.nintendo.com/
This is the official page, where you can get some information on the game, like the playable characters! Some of the places that you will visit and more! Multiplayer can be mayhem with two players, I wonder how much mayhem it would be if you have four players! That was my Goomba to kill!

Rating

I rate Super Mario World 3D with an 8.6 before playing.
If you are looking for a fun platformer, this is a perfect game, especially if you have friends!

Story

Bowser kidnaps a few pixies, We do not know what for, but Mario and his gang put up the chase to hand his butt to him again and save the pixies! By collecting the green stars on the way, the can travel to space with the pixies help!

Rating

I rate the story of Super Mario 3D World with a 2.5
I do not even why they bother anymore, there are only a few Super Mario games with a good plot! They should just remove the story, you will not even know it would be gone!

Gameplay

It is your job to clear each world, you can select the level on the map, you can wander around freely, which can lead to some secrets! In many worlds, there will be a slot machine that can give you extra lives! You can also use a trick to gain infinite lives in the second level! The levels are quite big, and you can explore them freely in 3D style! Become a kitty!

In each level, you will need to find three green stars to finally reach space! To get to the farthest reaches of space, you will need to find them all! In each level you will also find a stamp, to get all the stamps, you will need to complete each level five times if you play solo! This includes the secret character! We collected all the stamps except these stamps!

There are also roadblock enemies on the map that you need to take out, you will also find boss levels! One of the hardest levels is the boss rush level since you have a time limit! You also need to jump at the top of the flagpole at each level, otherwise you will not be able to take on champion road in the final world! Get out there and jump your way to the finish!

Rating

I rate the gameplay of Super Mario 3D World with a 9.4
While the multiplayer is a complete mayhem, the mechanics are amazing, as each character just works a little different! Need to run fast? Choose Toad, want to jump high? Choose Luigi!

Sound and Graphics

Graphics

The graphics of Super Mario 3D World are great and diverse! There are many worlds with different themes to explore! The enemies are also varied, and the levels that do return as special are altered enough that you can enjoy them again! The upgrades look great, but I think the ice flower is missing!

Sound

With many worlds, comes a lot of different soundtracks that you can enjoy! The sound effects are great, you do hear a lot of meowing sounds though! Get that kitty bell and meow your way to victory!

Rating

I rate the sound and graphics of Super Mario 3D World with an 8.8!
Travel to space and challenge champion road in the crown world!

What did I think after playing Super Mario 3D World?

Most of the levels were fun, not fun enough to do them three to five times for all the stamps! The later levels actually got quite difficult but if you cannot co-operate with your friend that you are playing with, you are going to kill each other, in game as well as in real life! You need a lot of co-ordination to work together!

There are a lot of levels to play, with most of them being fairly easy, but there are some challenging levels out there! The bonus level of creeper plants in the poison swamp come to mind, where you need to light the torches for the green stars! If you explore the levels, you are bound to find many secrets!

I rate Super Mario 3D World with an 8.6 after playing,
What you see on the page is what you get!

What are my personal thoughts about Super Mario 3D world?

I had a lot of fun, but the last level was just cruel, and it took a few attempts to clear it! My wife just said, you do it, I am going to shoot someone with a sniper!

Rating

My personal Rating of Super Mario 3D World is a 7.3
While I had a lot of fun, I did wish there was a better story!

  3. I know some recent Mario games have been criticized for being a bit too samey, but it sounds like this game is a lot of fun with the co-op, exploration, and the welcome addition of cats! (Or cat suits, rather). I do wish Nintendo would take a bit more risks with their storytelling instead of the same old stuff, even though the games are still fun to play. Speaking of story, have you played the two Mario series that are better known for their stories, the Mario & Luigi series and the Paper Mario series? The latter series has better stories in its first three games, but Color Splash is alright and has some pretty funny dialogue and scenarios!

    • I will start reviewing those games in the future as well, I did play them in my younger years and enjoyed the stories!

  4. Whoops; above, in my final point, I meant Origami King, not Color Splash! The problem is the games in the Paper Mario series lose what made them unique after the third game...so they are kind of samey afterwards in my mind. Although Origami King is definitely a step in the right direction for the series' future.

  12. Looks great, play is fun, but why the 5 repeats if solo?

    • You need to clear each level five times with each character, otherwise you cannot earn all the stamps in the game, thus no 100% completion!

  13. Even though it was not the 3D Mario everyone wanted its just such a fantastic game. I love it even though its very easy for the most time...

  16. This game is super fun and the levels are all unique and creative! I agree though that the story is very bland and they could try more with it, the bosses also feel a little too easy

    • The boss rush mode is only difficult due to the time restrains! You need to perfect the bosses to barely scrape by with 20 seconds left!
