Team Sonic Racing review

Introduction

Team Sonic Racing bursts onto the scene as the latest addition to the reviews on my website, this high-speed racing game promises a thrilling experience with a focus on teamwork. Sonic and friends are back on the track, ready to leave their competitors in the dust. That is right, a racing game where you have to rely on A.I. Oh dear.

What did I think before playing Team Sonic Racing

As a long-time Sonic fan, I was excited but a bit skeptical. Sonic games have had their ups and downs, and the racing genre isn’t new for Sanic. Still, the concept of team-based racing intrigued me, and I hoped it would add a fresh twist to the typical Sonic speed. Without further ado, since talking about racing games makes me sleepy, let’s check out the Steam page.

The Steam Page

The Steam page showcased vibrant graphics and the promise of intense multiplayer action. The character roster, featuring Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and others, looked promising. The inclusion of team-based mechanics, power-ups, and diverse tracks added to the appeal. My anticipation grew, and I was eager to hit the tracks with Team Sonic. As usual with racing games of this caliber, you will have three types of characters.

Rating

I rated Team Sonic Racing with a 7.1 before playing.
While the game did look exciting, it is hard to make a racing game stick for long.

Story

Team Sonic Racing doesn’t focus heavily on narrative, and it follows a relatively straightforward plot involving a mysterious invitation to a racing competition.

Rating

I rated the story in Team Sonic Racing with a 4.8
While it’s not the game’s strongest point, the light-hearted story serves its purpose in setting the stage for the racing action.

Gameplay

Team Sonic Racing delivers a high-octane racing experience that encapsulates the essence of Sonic’s legendary speed. The game introduces a refreshing focus on teamwork, setting it apart from traditional racing titles. Players form teams of three characters, each with distinct classes: Speed, Technique, and Power, as I had anticipated. This diversity encourages strategic team compositions and dynamic collaboration during races, you won’t win a race with speed alone.

The team-based mechanics play a pivotal role in the gameplay. Cooperative actions like sharing power-ups and slip streaming teammates provide advantages, fostering a sense of camaraderie on the track. The team ultimate move amplifies the thrill, allowing the entire team to unleash a powerful boost and wreak havoc on opponents, it also makes you invincible.

While the multiplayer experience shines with its emphasis on teamwork and competition, the single-player campaign has its highs and lows. The lack of a deep narrative and the occasional inconsistency in AI behavior can make the solo experience feel less engaging. However, the variety of challenges and the option to customize and upgrade vehicles add layers to the gameplay.

Rating

I rated the gameplay of Team Sonic Racing with a 6.9
While the gameplay is okay, the A.I. of the characters helping you are not very useful.

Sound and Graphics

Graphics

Team Sonic Racing dazzles with its visual presentation, capturing the vibrant and whimsical aesthetic of the Sonic universe. The graphics are a delightful blend of modern visual fidelity and nostalgic nods to Sonic’s storied history. Character models are meticulously designed, showcasing the iconic cast with a level of detail that fans will appreciate.

Sound

The soundtrack, true to Sonic tradition, is energetic and fitting for the racing theme. Sonic’s iconic tunes accompany you on the tracks, enhancing the overall experience.

Rating

I rated the sound and graphics of Team Sonic Racing with an 8.2
This might be the strongest point in this game.

What did I think after playing Team Sonic Racing?

Team Sonic Racing exceeded my expectations. The gameplay was addictive, and the team dynamics added a layer of strategy that kept races engaging. Despite some minor issues, the overall experience was enjoyable, especially in multiplayer, where the teamwork aspect truly shines.

Rating

I rated Team Sonic Racing with a 7.0 after playing
While it was fun, racing was never my strong suit!

What are my personal thoughts about Team Sonic Racing?

I did enjoy the races, it focuses a lot on multiplayer, luckily there is a solo mode. I do love it when there is a solo mode, that should be the main standard in every game.

Rating

My personal Rating of Team Sonic Racing is a 6.2
This would not be a game that I would stick a long time with.

It's a game that can be enjoyed by more than one player, the circuits are pretty good, the gameplay is pretty good and original with its team races, but it doesn't make you forget Mario Kart.
