Battletoads in Battlemaniacs Review

Are you ready to rumble with the Battletoads!?

Battletoads in Battlemaniacs Review

Introduction

Today we will be going back in time to review a golden oldie, there might be a new Battletoads but let us first review Battletoads in Battle maniacs! This is a game from the SNES era, even though I royally suck at Beat em up games, I always enjoyed these game! For some reason, the part where I always die, though, is in the hover racing part. Ever seen me try a racing simulator? This game even has co-op, we even made a video where we epicly fail at playing this game! See us perish at the hover bike race!

What did I think before playing Battletoads in Battlemaniacs?

Battletoads takes me back to my childhood, that epic jam in the intro, the getting beaten up by skeletons! Off course, do not forget my worst nightmare, the hover bike race! I only managed to beat this game once with a pure stroke of luck when completing the hover bike race. The snake platforms have a mean streak, though! Time to revisit this game together with my wife in co-op, we shall perish in the races! For more information, we are going to the Battletoads Wiki page!

The Battletoads Wiki

On this page you can read all about the story, the levels and of course, how the game works! If you ever want to beat this game, you will need to study these pages! Otherwise, you are in for a big surprise, this surprise will off course beat you up and leave you crumpled on the floor! SNES games were always hard, even to this day!

Rating

I rate Battletoads in Battlemaniacs with an 8.8
Before playing.
Man, that music is insanely awesome, I can still remember hearing that intro beat the first time as a kid! The co-op function in this game is also amazing, a game where multiple genres combine was very rare in the SNES era, this was mostly due to technological issues.

Story

The story takes place in a secluded location where Professor T. bird wants to show off his new gamescape! The Battletoads are the bodyguards of Michiko, Daughter of the president of the Psicone corporation. When the gamescape turns on, the creatures shown leap out of the portal and grab Michiko, Zits tries to rescue her but gets beaten up and also taken captive. With the portal now leaking into the real world, the remaining Battletoads will need to stop the Dark Queen and rescue their leader and Michiko.

Rating

I rate the story of Battle toads in Battle maniacs with a 9.2.
The story might not be the most awesome story ever, but remember, a lot of the SNES beat ’em up games did not have a huge story, or even a story at all, not counting the RPG games off course! Anyone here remembers Terranigma? That game was awesome, I am aching to review it!

Gameplay

The gameplay is where this game truly shines, it is quite remarkable for such an old game, as this game was released way back in 1993! The first time that I played this game, I was only 5! The first level is a regular beat em up, as you go through the level with morphing weapons and beating up evil pigs! Do not worry, there are also skeletons and traps! The second level also consists of beating up monsters, while on a hoverboard floating down a hollow tree! There is a neat trick here to get many lives if you are able to pull it off!

There are also bonus levels in between the story levels that you can use to gain multiple lives, but be wary, the bonus levels can also harm you! Once you get to the third level, the real nightmare begins, maybe one of the hardest SNES gaming segments ever, the dreadful hover bike race! Finger fast reflexes are needed along with a photographic memory! While I have the latter for most of the games, for some reason I always freeze up in this segment, panic rushes in, and I get obliterated by one of the many stone.

If you do manage to get past the hover bike level, you will face the snakes with a mean streak! They will try to kill you with fast movements and throw you into spikes! This level is quite easy compared to the others! Are you ready for a rollercoaster, That is what you will face next!

The rollercoaster level is quite easy compared to the hover bikes! Just duck and jump at the right time! If you manage to complete this level, another bonus level will appear, get ready for the final level! This one is quite simple, racing towards a bomb and then the final battle!

Rating

I rate the gameplay of Battletoads in Battlemaniacs with a 9.5
This game is a bomb filled with pure nostalgia, games were simple but could still be jam packed with action! This game also takes me back to the time that my grandpa learned me the ropes of gaming! He always said : Pay attention to every little detail and remember it, I spent days upon days practicing, and boy, was he right!

Sound and Graphics

Graphics

The graphics in Battletoads in Battlemaniacs are just amazing, there are many levels and, they all look and feel different! Remember, this was back when there was barely space on the cartridge! This game has aged perfect, it still looks incredible. Somehow 2D sprites age remarkable, how will the new Battletoads game fair? Do not think that I forgot about Battletoads and Double Dragon teaming up, a review is off course incoming! Those morphing attacks look sick as heck! I am going to transform my foot into a giant boot and shove it where the sun does not shine!

Sound

What can I say about the sound and sound effects? Simply astounding, incredible, If you ask me.

Rating

I rate the sound and graphics of Battletoads in Battlemaniacs with a 10.
Anyone up for an air guitar riff? This music is amazing!

What did I think after playing Battletoads in Battlemaniacs?

My wife and I had a great time playing co-op, off course with the friendly fire turned off! This is a good thing for our marriage! Even though we failed miserably and crashed into stones when reaching the hover bike race! Those stones are hard man, what are those things on the ground though? Cheese puffs?

There are so many genres slammed into Battletoads in Battlemaniacs, beat ’em up, racing, puzzling, platforming, bowling, and so much more! I like Pimple the best in Battle Toads! My wife played as Rash, are you getting an itch yet to scratch that zit? Get playing and pop some baddies!

Rating

I rate Battletoads in Battlemaniacs with a 9.0 After Playing.
This game never gets old, well technically it does. This game is most likely fueled with nostalgia for many people. Not only has this game great mechanics and many genres, it also has co-op!

What are my personal thoughts about Battletoads in Battlemaniacs

For me personally this is a 10, no discussion possible, why? Battletoads in Battlemaniacs is one of the many games that I played with my grandpa. If you think only my grandpa liked games, my grandma did as well, she showed me how to beat this game eventually, also, she showed me neat tricks to destroy Chrono Trigger and many other games! This is a game that leads me down memory lane!

My personal Rating of Battletoads in Battlemaniacs is a 10!
The sweet memories that this game reminds me of, make it an easy ten for me!
